GoToMeeting updates include Smartwatch App

GoToMeeting announced last week that they have updated their Web Conferencing Solution.

The first (and possibly most belated feature) is an option to allow attendees to join meetings through their web browsers using Flash. This will be the first time that GoToMeeting users won’t have to require their meeting attendees to download an application in order to join a meeting.

We’re excited to see them jump on board with this feature. Downloading desktop applications is so 2010.

We’ll be testing ‘Web Viewing’ to see how well it actually works. Most of the web conferencing tools we sell already work without downloads so GoToMeeting might have some catching up to do.

On the other hand, they really hit ahead of the curve with their next update – an Android Smartwatch App. This new update allows Android Wear users to join, participate and leave a meeting without ever touching their phones.

In an attempt to highlight uses for a meeting watch, the company suggests that you can "Take a jog while you’re taking a meeting".

We’re not entirely sure this is the most effective way to take a meeting. Meetings are a waste of time and resources if they don’t accomplish their purpose and, really, how focused are you going to be on the desired result, when you’re huffing and puffing down the sidewalk.

So far it seems like the purpose of a Smartwatch meeting app is so you’ll be able to take meetings while you’re busy doing something else. That’s just multitasking and multitasking is the reason why a lot of meetings fail. We defiantly don’t want to promote that.

We hope useful and effective applications of this feature will be forthcoming because – well, it’s pretty cool.

Before completely passing judgment, we’d like to see this application in action. The featured image in the app store, showing the GoToMeeting logo on a watch, doesn’t answer any questions we have about the interface and how it works. If it can effectively help people meet while on-the-go, maybe it is a viable option.

How would you take meeting with a Smartwatch?

If you end up using the app on your Smartwatch, let us know how it goes!
